Being listed here means the community has not seen enough, not that the vendor is bad. Several have one good report and nothing since.
The four testing services
Every number on these pages traces to one of four independent services, and members use all four:
- Janoshik — HPLC and mass spectrometry. The most-used service here by a wide margin, and the one most vendor COAs are checked against.
- Medutest — frequently used as a second opinion; several members split a single vial between Medutest and Janoshik specifically to measure inter-lab variance.
- PeptideMeter — publishes vendor-level averages over time, which makes it the useful one for spotting a trend rather than a single batch.
- VendorInvestigate — write-ups and verification work alongside testing.
A result from one service on one vial is a data point. Agreement between two services on the same batch is evidence. A vendor claim with neither is a marketing document.
How to use this directory
Read the verification log before the rating. The rating is a summary of a lot of averaging; the log is the specific list of things somebody checked. An 88 with an open unresolved item is a different proposition to an 88 with three years of quiet entries.
Then read the test log, and look at the spread rather than the mean. The most common mistake people make with this directory is picking the vendor with the highest single result instead of the vendor whose results cluster.
Then test your own vial anyway. Every long-standing member of c/vendorvetting will tell you the same thing: a good record predicts your batch, it does not guarantee it.
