wait so is 0.25 the "real" dose or is that just the starter

Question

I've read like six different explainer posts and I'm somehow more confused than when I started. Everyone keeps saying 0.25 "doesn't count" and the real dose is higher up the ladder somewhere.

My provider gave me a box of four pens and said one a week for a month, that's it, no other explanation. Is 0.25 actually doing anything or is it just a formality before the "real" part starts?

0.25 counts, it's just not the dose most people stay on. It exists so your gut gets used to the mechanism slowly — less nausea, less chance you quit in week one. Nobody expects it to move the scale much. That's the design, not a malfunction.

ok that helps a lot actually. so it's less "is this dose working" and more like onboarding

onboarding is exactly the right word for it.

steal this phrase, it's better than anything in the wiki right now

the ladder exists because jumping straight to a "real" dose is how you end up in the bathroom for three days. slow is the whole point, not a delay before the point.

this is basically where I am too, week two on 0.25 and nothing on the scale. starting to wonder if I'm doing it wrong.

you're not. give it the full four weeks before you even start asking that question.

worth separating two things: the starting dose is genuinely low relative to the maintenance range, but "doesn't count" is a bad way to say that. it's doing the job it's supposed to do, which isn't weight loss yet.

counterpoint, some people do lose on the starter dose and then everyone tells them it's "just water weight" which is also kind of dismissive in the other direction

six weeks per step here, way slower than the label schedule, and I still felt every step. the ladder isn't a formality anywhere on it, including the bottom rung.

respect the six weeks. I did the label pace and regretted it by week 3.

the label pace is a floor not a target, that's the thing nobody tells you.

documenting mine slowly in a diary post if anyone wants the boring version of this answer over 8 weeks instead of a paragraph
