[Question] how do you actually verify ALT

Questionbranch of 16 comments

Trying to settle this properly because the thread from last year went in circles. The claim: bloodwork matters. The counter-claim: it is measurement error. Both sides have been asserting it confidently for about 9 months without either producing anything. What would actually settle it is 11 people measuring the same…

My fasting insulin went from 14 to 37 in 44 weeks. The eGFR story shows up in the trend, not the single number.

Ferritin tanked from 10 to 9. Small appetite, reduced iron intake, nobody was testing it until I asked.

ALT is where the fatty-liver story shows up first

Ferritin tanked from 10 to 9.

Disagree on that part. 98.4% and 98.3% on the same vial is normal.

Strongly agree. ALT is where you catch the liver story early.

eGFR noise during rapid loss is expected

A1c moves slowly, quarterly is plenty

Yes, exactly this, and it is the bit that took me 57 weeks to accept.

eGFR from 13 to 15 is movement, not noise

I am going to push back on this slightly.

baseline is the most important ferritin measurement, you cannot collect it later

My hs-CRP went from 11 to 14 in 57 weeks. The ALT story shows up in the trend, not the single number.

This is correct. ApoB is the better marker.

post reference ranges with your numbers, units differ by country and lab

About c/bloodwork

What to measure before you start, what to re-measure, and how to interpret movement without panicking. ApoB over LDL-C, HOMA-IR as a crude free tool, ALT and the fatty-liver story, eGFR noise during rapid loss, and the deficiencies that a 1,100-calorie appetite will hand you.
