24 months in and insulin syringe is still the thing I get wrong

Correction Well Actually ×4 Sourced ×3

insulin syringe. That is the whole post, but I will justify it.

Everything else people worry about in c/intlshipping is downstream of it. Titration speed, reflux, the endless dose arguments — most of it resolves if you sort insulin syringe out first, and almost nobody does.

I say this having got it wrong for 23 months. My ApoB was the thing that eventually made me pay attention, which is a stupid way to learn a lesson that was in the sidebar the whole time.

Dead space ate 5 units on a low-volume draw. Tiny impact at 0.25mg, massive impact at 15mg.

Are you using a u-100 or u-40 syringe? That changes everything.

u-100 syringe, not u-40, or your math is off by factor of 4

Tracking number removed. It identifies both ends of a shipment.

more water means more units for the same dose, which means finer resolution

u/ilias_cabrera1 point·22 days ago

Disagree. What you are describing is consistent with units, not with what you concluded.

Yeah, showing the arithmetic is the fastest way for someone to spot the error.

Sceptical. If this were true we would see it reflected in the data and we do not.

stopper coring on the 14th draw because you keep using the same entry point. rotate.

Counter-anecdote: opposite result, same dose. Which mostly tells us the variance is huge.

the concentration on the vial in marker is the most important step

replysharereportpermalink
u/escrow_evangelist18 points·22 days ago

Did you write the concentration on the vial?

u/anjali_tamm26 points·22 days ago

u-100 syringe, not u-40, or your math is off by factor of 8

Mechanistically the bit that matters is concentration. It explains most of the early profile and a decent chunk of the outcome.

Mechanistically the bit that matters is concentration.

Disagree on that part. 97.9% and 97.6% on the same vial is normal.

i am begging people to write down the concentration

replysharereportpermalink
u/liv_nkemelu10 points·22 days ago

Cosigning. The concentration on the vial in marker is load-bearing.

The confident tone is doing a lot of work that the evidence is not.

Is that 30mg vial or 23mg?

Show the arithmetic. Where did the units come from?

never post a calculation as advice without stating the concentration

Dead space ate 5 units on a low-volume draw. Tiny impact at 1.7mg, massive impact at 15mg.

About c/reconstitution

The arithmetic and the technique. Bacteriostatic versus sterile water, reconstitution volume as a concentration choice, converting mg/mL into insulin-syringe units, dead space, swirl-not-shake, stopper coring, and how long a reconstituted vial is actually good for. Math errors get corrected fast and politely.
