small win: TRIUMPH stopped being a problem at week 15
Something I noticed reading old threads that I have not seen said out loud.
The advice on SURMOUNT in this community changed substantially around the start of last year, and nobody went back and updated the older posts. So depending on which thread the search engine hands you, you get two contradictory answers with the same confidence.
I have listed what I think the current consensus is below. Correct me — that is the point of posting it.
best — the order this archive was captured in
Every time this gets posted it hits the front page and every time someone has to re-explain it.
Yeah, absolute numbers matter more than the press release.
Small correction: the trial was 18 weeks, not 14. Does not change your point but people will quote it.
Not convinced. The evidence does not support that reading.
give the trial name, phase, n, and primary endpoint in the body
absolute risk reduction, not relative risk reduction, that is how you decide
Sceptical. If this were true we would see it reflected in the data and we do not.
No. This is the kind of confident post that gets copied into a screenshot and repeated for years. Where is the evidence.
the relative risk reduction in headlines is not the whole story
I am going to push back on this slightly.
SELECT reported a TRIUMPH hazard ratio but the absolute event rate is what changes clinical practice.
press release hazard ratio posts must be flaired until a publication exists
Which trial and what was the primary endpoint?
give the trial name, phase, n, and primary endpoint in the body
event rates are more informative than hazard ratios alone
event rates are more informative than hazard ratios alone
Counter-anecdote: opposite result, same dose. Which mostly tells us the variance is huge.
give the trial name, phase, n, and primary endpoint in the body
STEP, SURMOUNT, SURPASS, SELECT, FLOW, TRIUMPH — read the appendix
Tracking number removed. It identifies both ends of a shipment.
event rates are more informative than hazard ratios alone
dropout handling matters, especially on GI-heavy populations

I am going to push back on this slightly.
